London Basket Brigade 2018
Each year, on the 23rd of December, a few hundred volunteers gather in London for a very special event. Basket Brigade has been running in London for 22 years. The idea is that a family in need at Christmas receive an anonymous delivery of a Christmas dinner hamper. It’s easy to live in a bubble at this time of year, and not be aware that there are people, especially children, who won’t be able to have a Christmas like many others.
Throughout the year, funds are raised by a variety of sources and organised activities. There is an immense amount of organisation involved in putting on such an event. Not just related to fund raising, but the logistics of the food and the tasks of all the volunteers on the day. This year, 1,500 baskets were packed. Which means on average, 6-7,000 people will be fed due to the efforts made by the Basket Brigade team.
You may have previously read that PictureFrame.TV donates a percentage of it’s turnover to this and another two causes. We don’t just donate money, but we also physically volunteer for this and both our other chosen charities.
Throughout the day, baskets are packed and placed in a holding area where at the end of the day, drivers would be allocated postcodes. Then teams of people go out to areas in and around London, and deliver the baskets anonymously. It’s a truly heartwarming feeling when you drop a basket to a home where the family is completely surprised and grateful.
